Multi-instrumentalists Chelsea Wolfe and Jess Gowrie, known for their work in the black-metal band Red Host, reunite to create a noise rock album with sludge, doom metal, stoner metal, and deathrock influences. The album, titled Self-Surgery, was released in 2020 under Sargent House. Wolfe's unique approach to metal, dark ambient, and folk is complemented by Gowrie's visceral, raw, fearsome, and efficient style. The album is a masterful noise that gives free rein to a liberating savagery expressed by their heavy rhythms.
